The Rainforest Properties represent a new residential project based on the principles of
- Longterm Ecological Sustainability
- Forest and Wildlife Conservation
- Ecological Restoration by Reforestation
- Tropical Landscaping
The project is peacefully nestled in a lush rainforest valley south of Arenal volcano’s green slope and is surrounded by clean rivers and primary rainforest. It is designed by Mother Earth for those who love to unwind from a stressful lifestyle in a true tropical setting. It offers all outdoor activities like hiking, swimming, fishing, bird watching, gardening or horseback riding combined with spectacular volcano views and year-round excellent climatic conditions.
Since the purchase of the 20 acres property by the present owners in 1997 several steps were undertaken following a Masterplan to continuously improve the ecological value of the future Rainforest Properties and to reduce at the same time the carbon footprint of the future owner by offering the opportunity to invest into a very personal carbon project.
The Masterplan is based on the following principles:
1) Identification and strict conservation of the remaining primary tropical rainforest zones along the river banks of Rio Chachagua and Rio Piqueca.
2) Extending the areas flanking the rainforest with buffer zones by reforestation using native tree, fruit and ornamental species (creating a biological “corredor” for the migrating fauna by increasing food sources both in diversity and quantity).
3) Production of precious tropical timber wood (Royal Teak wood, beginning in 2001) using sustainable forestry practices for future construction demands.
4) Landscaping of the open park areas with native ornamental plants (e.g. heliconias) to attract more wildlife (focus on hummingbirds).
5) Construction of a model home on the Owner’s Property to demonstrate the architectural options and potential costs.
